Beds: Frequently Asked Questions
What is an air bed?
The concept of an air bed is simple. When we lie down to sleep what
the body needs is a sleep surface which will allow all the muscles
and joints to relax. In a typical spring mattress the coils push
up against the body to support it. This design was a great improvement
over hard cotton and horsehair mattresses of earlier days, but it
still created pressure points in the shoulders, hips and knees.
These pressure points, in turn, cause a lack of proper alignment
of the spine and also cut off circulation, causing us to toss and
turn on an average of 50 to 70 times per night! No wonder so many
people do not sleep well!
An air bed literally allows us to sleep on air. The air mattress
consists of a very strong air chamber attached to a powerful air
pump, which is operated by a remote control. We lie down on the
air beds, press the "inflate" buttons and we are floating
on air. Press the "deflate" button on the air bed and
the air chamber perfectly conforms to every curve and contour of
our anatomy, exerting an even pressure over the whole body. There
are no pressure points, no constriction of circulation within air
mattresses and best of all - the entire spine can align itself naturally
when you sleep on an air mattress! With air beds we are cradled
in comfort.
Airbed owners report they fall asleep faster, toss and turn much
less and wake up feeling truly refreshed -- ready for dynamic activity.
