Air Bed Reviews

Aero Minute Bed Mattress

We bought this air bed for our daughter and son-in-law to sleep on in our 5th wheel camper. I charged the pump the initial 24 hours when I first brought it home and then inflated the mattress. Everything was great. The first night our kids slept on it, it was fine and they said it was comfortable. On the second night (the third time to pump it up), the pump was drained of its charge by the time the bed was half inflated. The directions give very stern warnings against recharging the pump before it is fully discharged and recharging it for less than 12 hours (who inflates the mattress 12 hours before they are going to need it and what happens if, as in this case, it does not fully discharge until you are in the middle of inflating the mattress?), so they ended up sleeping on a half-inflated mattress, which they said was very uncomfortable. When we were deflating it the next morning, the plastic clip on the air release valve broke completely off, as I have read in other reviews. I am going to return this mattress to Sears and buy one with an electric pump. I will then inflate and deflate it several times to be sure the clip is not going to break right away. At the very least, I would recommend buying the bed with the electric pump.

Intex Recreation Raised Airbed 66713

I purchased this air bed mainly because I wanted to have an extra large bed available and did not have the room to have it up all the time. I saw this for sale in the ABC Distributing catalogue for just $59 (plus $20 for S&H) and thought the price was great -- It came very well packed and folded along with a carrying bag -- Very good quality vinyl with the "velveteen" covering on the top. It did not take too long to fill it up and the height really made a difference. We had used the one that is on the floor and compared to that this is great -- It takes a queen sheet but you could get away with an extra deep full size sheet --It seems a bit wavy when two people are on it and you could feel the movement a bit - but compared to sleeping on a couch it is great -- An inexpensive bates or chenille bedspread will make this look like a real bed. For the money and convenience it is great.

I bought this air bed because my friend has a bad back, and when he comes to my house, he cannot sleep on my waterbed without ending up in major pain due to the movement. So we bought this air bed, and set it up in minutes. We thought it was quite nice to start, and were amazed how easily it inflated (and also deflated) with the attached pump. I did not like it as much as my waterbed, but it wasn't bad for a bed that could be set up in less than 5 minutes, after being stored in the closet. But as the night went on, the bed lost air, and pretty soon, it was so soft that it was slanting toward the middle from both the ends and the sides. Which was a major problem for my friend with the bad back. So we added more air, and it slowly lost it again.
I took it back to the store where I bought it, and said I wanted to try another one, to see if it leaked. The lady who does refunds told me that almost all of them were being returned for losing air, and she strongly recommended I just take the money back, and buy a different one elsewhere!! So there is little question in my mind that this is a faulty product. I did just get a refund, after her convincing me they were all defective, and have yet to buy another air mattress elsewhere.
Restform Raised Air Bed With Pump And Storage/Travel Bag

Were on our second air bed now in 6 weeks! The first one needed inflating every 2 hours.
We tried our second one, a replacement last night. Inflated it at half past midnight. By 6:30 am, it had gone down so that we thought we slept in a hammock!

Abed Royalty Air Bed Mattress

This is our second air bed to buy. We purchased a Queen sized Select Comfort about three years ago, and loved it. When our children outgrew their bunk beds, one child inherited a queen sized bed we had already acquired, and the other child also wanted a queen size bed. Instead of purchasing another queen sized bed, we opted to upgrade ours to the palatial KING SIZE...we set out to purchase another Select Comfort bed, only to find they no longer make the exact same bed we purchased just a short time ago. We were disappointed, but took the opportunity to see what else was out there in the "air bed" market.

We happened upon abed.com. After researching many companies, we called them up and spoke to a knowledgeable consultant. We were disappointed to learn that we would have to "buy sight-unseen" as there are no retailers that carry this bed. They do offer a generous try before you buy plan, which is what we opted for.

We ordered the Royalty model and had to wait about three weeks before delivery, upon delivery, we were very careful when opening the boxes, just in case we had to send it all back. That night we decided to pitch the boxes, as it was staying! It sets up fairly easily, king size is just a bit awkward since it's so big.

It's foundation is made of solid pine, and the mattress itself has twin air chambers (for the king sized bed), which is covered with 3 inches of memory foam. Memory foam is a high tech foam that cushions yet is very dense and supportive. The wool-filled pillow top zips on and covers the memory foam layer. The wool-filled pillow top is a selling point because it usually is warm in winter and wicks away perspiration in summer. The outer covering of the entire foundation/mattress is a beautiful damask. It is asthetically pleasing to the eye and feels soft and luxurious.

We were disappointed in the quality of the remote control vs. quality of the remote with Select Comfort. Although they are both wireless remote control to adjust the air in the bladder, Select comfort remote gives you a digital reading of the level of air, for example setting of 50 is 50% full of air, with abed remote you have nothing to go on, but to get on the bed and see if there's enough air in it.

The bed does have a 20 year limited warranty. This warranty does cover the pump & rubber air chambers. There is fine print, which after three years, it appears that they prorate the value and cover a certain percentage of the price for replacement.

I purchased regular King sized sheets, and didn't have to make sure they had deep pockets, and they fit perfectly.

My spouse's side is less firm then mine and we are both very happy with our purchase. We are happier with this bed then with our Select Comfort bed. All in all, it is a very comfortable bed.

To the company we would just ask that they re-style their remote controls, and they would attach longer air hoses from the mattress to the pump to allow for the pump to be stored properly under the frame.
We did get some nice incentives to purchase the abed, and they were, free frame and free delivery.

Air Bed Depot Online Store - airbeddepot.com

Preamble
There are some things that seem okay to purchase online. Beauty products. Toys. Clothing. But never in my life did I think that I would purchase a 'mattress' online. That concept seemed absurd to me. A MATTRESS???

Well folks, it really is just like purchasing anything else and should I ever have the opportunity to do it again (online), I will.

Who Is Air Bed Depot?
Air Bed Depot is an online store who specializes in selling Comfortaire brand airbeds. For a full explanation on what an airbed is, please see my previous review here:

The models of Comfortaire airbed that you can purchase from this site include:

Cirrus
Cerenity
Cerulean
Celenia
GeoTerra
GeoVista

How Did You Find Air Bed Depot?
In my other review, I mentioned that I had done a price search on the model of Comfortaire airbed that I wanted and Air Bed Depot had the lowest price.

I consistently found that Air Bed Depot ran anywhere from $100 - $700 cheaper than their competitors.

What's The Web Site Like?
Don't go here expecting lots of flashing gizmo's or fancy web designs. The owner of Air Bed Depot was definitely going for quality over quantity. While the actual web pages are pleasing to look at (white background with blue clouds and easy to navigate through topics), he obviously believed that content was more important.

In other reviews, I've told you that for me, the purchasing experience seems to be more positive when I perceive that the company's person in charge is out in the forefront promoting their item.

On Air Bed Depot's home page the owner, Mark has a short intro basically explaining his background (he's been selling mattresses since 1966) and how he came to start selling the Comfortaire brand of airbeds. He encourages you to reach out to him, leaving their toll free number, plus his email address. And then there's that grandpa-like picture of him. You can't help but be charmed by it :).

Most likely, those coming in to Mark's site are probably still wary about purchasing an airbed. Good for Mark - he understands that. Not only does he talk about his (and his wife's) personal experience with their Comfortaire but he also answers some basic FAQ's and provides customer testimonials for you to review.

Once you feel comfortable with the concept of airbed, then you have a handful beds in which to choose from.

The main bed product pages lists all of the beds, a short description of them, and a short snippet from Mark (one sentence) that really summarizes the bed. When you click on the bed, it gives you more detailed information about it and allows you to place the order.

One thing that is different from many of the other airbed sites is that Air Bed Depot is up front about their prices. They tell you for each individual bed and each individual size, how much it will cost.

Air Bed Depot offers you a 60 day, money back guarantee on their Comfortaire beds.

You can make payment by MasterCard, Visa, or Discover. Shipping is absolutely free.

When you finalize your order, you receive a receipts via email. Air Bed Depot emails you again when shipment has occurred and they also furnish you with the UPS shipping number.

My bed arrived within 5 business days of purchasing it. All parts were packed with great detail and I didn't have to dig and dig to find the instructions to put together my bed.

What Makes Air Bed Depot Special?
Sure, having the cheapest (or one of the cheapest prices) around doesn't hurt however, sometimes a cheap price means shoddy customer service, delays in receiving your product, and/or a non-quality product.

Not here.

Before I made the purchase, I emailed this 'Mark' to see if he really was a live person, and he was :). He answered my questions without trying to pressure me to purchase from him. Once I made my purchase, I continued to be impressed by the correspondence I received.

If I ever get some of my friends to make that leap to an airbed, this is the only online dealer that I'll recommend. Mark and Air Bed Depot made my entire purchasing experience for something that was very different for me, quite pleasant.
